Introduction

To arrive at a first list of core themes, we started by coding a collection of provisions from accreditation guides of various audit organisations and other guidelines in handbooks, covenants and guides. This led to the first version: a list of 61 core themes.

These 61 core themes were validated with a quality officer. During validation, three core themes were added, resulting in a second version of 64 core themes which was further discussed during a three‑round Delphi study. Sixteen healthcare professionals (including executives, medical specialists, nurses) participated, fourteen of whom participated in all three rounds. The Delphi study resulted in an inventory of 54 core themes.

From research to practice

The Delphi rounds delivered a validated set of 54 core themes that reflect what matters for hospital quality management.

Rafini translates these themes into an actionable structure with descriptions so hospitals can monitor, compare and improve.
